In the 7 week Design Challenge group, participants will engage in a series of design challenges to help learn how to tackle tricky problems, meet the needs of others, and work effectively in teams. We’ll learn how to use the design process to improve our lives and advocate for the needs of people in our community. Also, to have fun and enhance our divergent thinking skills. Participants will finish the course with a whole new set of skills that are useful in life, at work, and in school, and use those skills to participate in the CHATTER Event in June

What is design?

“Design is about progress. It is the conceptualization and creation of new things: ideas, interactions, information, objects, typefaces, books, posters, products, places, signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more.” –UIC School of Design

Human-centered design is a creative approach to problem. It’s a process that starts with the people you’re designing for and ends with new solutions that are tailor made to suit their needs. Human-centered design is all about building a deep empathy with the people you’re designing for; generating tons of ideas; building a bunch of prototypes; sharing what you’ve made with the people you’re designing for; and eventually putting your innovative new solution out in the world –IDEO
